Forecast for the coming week at Saunton, courtesy of Magic Seaweed... OK, couldn't put it in this post, so have sent it to the blog page instead.

Don't forget that swell height does not translate to a wave of the same height... although if you know the spot you can estimate the wave height from the swell forecast.
People talk about the tide going out a long way in Saunton so the beach must shelve gently and the waves should therefore be much smaller than the swell. Sadly there is no standard formula to use but when I was in Ireland, mast high swell ended up as 5ft to 6ft waves.
I would imagine that sailing on the shore will be the least taxing thing for most people. Heading out will take you into the big swell and somewhere in between, the waves will be breaking. You'll probably see me doing front crawl around that region. :twisted:

5-6 foot waves and the BBC forcasting 29mph dead onshore friday and saturday
Should be fun getting out.

I hope that it doesn't hurt your ribs when you laugh... you might experience more pain spectating than you would do sailing.
