The third episode of the TWS Slalom Technique Series is about jibing, one of the first things every surfer learns but something that can make the big difference between winning and losing a race. With two pro’s showing you how it is done, there is no better way to improve your jibes than by watching this clip and just trying it out on the water. In the first two episodes you have seen how the board and sail can be tuned perfectly, so Jordy Vonk and Marco lang will now show you how to put this to practice.
JibingThe first thing to do is sliding your back hand further back on the boom, and changing your front hand to upper position if you have got it in downard position. Secondly you get out of the harness line and in one motion you lower your body position to get ready for the turn. To start the turn you will need to put your back foot to the other side of the board, make sure you keep your weight in the middle of the board to keep the speed and balance. Now take your front foot out of the strap, step to the other side while keeping the board flat and start to switch your hands. Switch your hands to the other side of the boom and get ready to sail away by getting into the straps and hooking in.
