As announced here last week, the famous Peter Volwater will be competing on Starboard iSonics for the 2014 PWA World Tour. And the Dutchman is already showing great speeds! After less than two months on his new boards, he recorded last week a new spot record for Augusta, Western Australia and a new personal best on slalom equipment, reaching almost 45 knots on an iSonic 90!

"Monday January 20th was a special day for me. With very little swell at the Margaret River main break, I decided to skip the wavesailing for the day and venture out to Augusta; which is only a 35 minute drive from Margaret River and an excellent river sailing spot. The decision was made quite late and there was only hour and half of light left in the day.

Upon arrival, I immediately rigged the KA Race 6.3m² and prepared my iSonic 90 with 34 cm Sonntag fin. Over here, in a SE wind pattern, the wind can blow day and night. The trees where moving violently, and the river was filled with white caps. I launched at the spot and sailed right across reaching along the river for 2 kilometers until I reached the river mouth."

"On this windy and late Monday afternoon, it was just me and a kite surfer out sharing the conditions. There was ample room to make 10-second runs, although some dune build-up made the wind a little gusty but the base wind was strong and the KA Race 6.3 was the perfect sail for the conditions. However, the iSonic 90 and 34 SLP were really more suited for slalom sailing... Would this be way too big for this kind of sailing? Usually, people use 45 cm wide boards and 20 cm speed fins in these kind of conditions.

However, the times on the GPS showed some very unexpected readings.... BAAAM! I was amazed at every run of 38 and 39 knots, but soon 40 knot runs became the norm and the peak speeds reached nearly 44.5 knots, which I have never ever experienced on Slalom equipment before! And after all, it was so easy and I never got out of control! [...]"
