Croft Farm Flyers’ team of young windsurfers will be looking for more of the same when they head to Carsington Water in Derbyshire for round two of the Team15 Midlands Inter-Club Challenge Series on Saturday (15 June).
The Flyers picked up their maiden event win since switching to the Midlands Team15 circuit last year at the opening round of the 2013 series at Croft Farm Waterpark last month, and the Tewkesbury youngsters have got the taste for victory.
Team15 is the RYA’s youth windsurfing development programme helping make windsurfing more accessible and appealing to kids aged 15 and under at grassroots level.
The Team15 Inter-Club Challenge Series takes place regionally over the summer adding a competitive edge and race training for those keen to hone their skills. Four regional rounds are contested with the Team15 Midlands crown and a place in October’s national Team15 Champions Cup grand final at stake.
Lolly Dickens (3.5m class), Daniel Ludlow (5.8m class) and Matt Dickens (6.8m class) made sure Croft Farm won three out of the four classes to dominate event one.
But the Flyers are likely to have their work cut out in the Peak District with the home club, Carsington Comets, regulars in the national Team15 Champions Cup final in recent years while Northampton-based Pitsford Pirates, who have won the regional title for the past three years, are poised to have a full strength team in action at Carsington, with their leading sailors having missed the opening round as they were competing at a UK Windsurfing Association (UKWA) Inland Series event.
Croft Farm Flyers train each week at their Wednesday Club. There are more than 80 Team15 clubs nationwide. Fun and informal Team15 sessions are held weekly, kit can be borrowed from the clubs and the cost of sessions is kept low.
