Waves For Change

Mental health is a subject often not noticed or supported enough, especially with children. Waves For Change helps take vulnerable and lesser privileged children from under resourced communities into the ocean through the medium of surf therapy. With the guidance and support from the mentors and the power of mother nature, the children learn how to cope with stress, regulate their behaviour and learn how to make positive life choices.

I had the privilege to document and witness the effects of surf therapy first hand. What the people do at Waves For Change for the children is so powerful and incredibly heart warming. Getting to be in the water and seeing how all the stresses and emotions of day to day life disappear for that time in the ocean is an experience I will never forget.

The film was supported by Lumix and shot entirely with a pre production Lumix S1 and 24-105mm lens in a mixture of HLG and cine D profiles. For the water shots I also used a housing by Outex. The camera worked flawlessly and for me is the perfect documentary camera.

Thank you to Ash and everyone at Waves For Change for all the help and allowing me to come and tell the incredible story of what you do.
