Will's Warriors' Downwind Challenge '14

Each year the young local windsurfers complete a challenge to thank the local charity that can be credited with getting most of them hooked on windsurfing - the Will Mackaness Trust. The charity was set up in memory of local boy (and head-boy of Wey Valley School) Will Mackaness who sadly lost his battle with cancer in 2008. Will was a passionate windsurfer, so the trust aims to give as many young people the opportunity to experience the thrill of water activities and give financial support to those who have shown a particular skill in water activities to enable them to progress further.

For 2014, the bar was raised higher, with a downwind challenge set for the Warriors to complete. On Friday 22nd August six team members left the OTC centre in Portland Harbour and windsurfed together out of the north entrance and into Weymouth Bay. With fickle winds and large rolling swell the team stuck together and made it as far as Durdle Door - such an achievement. And they have managed to raise just shy of £1000.00 for the charity in the process!
