Fuerteventura PWA Grand Slam 2019

After the recent Wave extravaganza on Gran Canaria, PWA World Tour hops onto another one of the Canaries: Fuerteventura. The event hosted between Jul 25 – Aug 03 will feature heats of freestyle battles, spiced up by the ultra fast slalom races!

Where?

The spot of choice on Fuerteventura must be Sotavento, one of the most famous places to wind- and kite-surf in the world! The beaches are wide with gorgeous golden sand and the local lagoons at Sotavento and Risco del Paso provide shallow, flat waters for beginners and freestyles. The biggest selling point of the spot though, is of course the wind! The prevailing north-east trade wind on the island gets a massive speed boost thanks to the terrain. That powerful, consistent blow is what makes the entire island a paradise for freestylers and slalom speed demons.

Who?

And on the 25th of July, Fuerteventura will attract both! Among the contestants in the freestyle category you’ll see such legends as last year’s winners Jose “Gollito” Estredo and Sarah-Quita Offringa.

In the brutal slalom races, many see the French rider Antoine Albeau as an indisputable leader. However, the last year’s triumphant will have to defend the title against his countryman Pierre Mortefon, who already beat him this year in Marignane, Marseilles. Another candidate for the trophy is the German rider Sebastian Kördel, who closed in 3rd during the opening event of the 2019 season.

Ready to rumble!

Fuerteventura PWA Grand Slam 2019 is coming, and it’s coming in big style. So prepare yourself for 6 days of speed, technique and wind! The whole event will be streamed and commented on the events page of PWA World Tour.
