Mach2 7,0 does 46 knots

Twan Verseput 2xSpeed Sailing World Champion has been busy testing our brand new Mach2 sails and came back with some impressive speeds on the Mach2 7.0 during one of his last sessions.

Read his personal report below:

After receiving the sails in January, I had the chance to test them in different conditions now. The new 7.0 I used the most and I absolutely love this sail! First, try on it was in Pozo on the Canaries which is famous for its difficult choppy conditions. Straight out of the bag rigged on exactly the specs on the sail (32cm extension/boom 200cm) it is spot on. The sail feels incredibly light also due to one batten less but still, the pressure point sits nicely at the same place which makes it easy to keep your stance even in hardcore conditions, but what amazed me the most is when the gust hits you. Like shifting down in a car and then the turbo kicks in which is giving you blistering acceleration!

Last Monday I got the chance to unleash it in some proper speed conditions, being stupid enough to let my speed boards and smaller sails at home the choice of what to take was easy for me. With the other guys rigging 5.5 sails and 44cm wide speed boards (wind was peaking 40 knots in the gusts) I had to go on 7.0 Mach 2 and the starboard isonic 72 (118 liters). I have never sailed a 7.0 in such strong wind conditions but it handled the big gusts really good! Keeping the board neutral gave me the confidence to push even in the 40 knots gusts! I had to pull the outhaul quite a lot but still, the pressure point kept nicely in place. The results were just amazing, 46.1 knots (85,5 km/h) peak and 2 times a 10 second run above 43 knots (80 km/h) which is a huge improvement of the current medium board world record. Never somebody has been sailing a 10 second run of 43 knots (80 km/h) on a medium board with medium sail size and peaking close to 46 knots, it is not even so common with speed boards!! I’m still surprised with how well the whole sail/board combination was working in this extreme wind for this kit, and I would not be surprised that we can go even faster with it in the right conditions!
