From the 6th – 9th of December the hometown of Jaeger Stone Geraldton hosted the 2018 Australian National championships at Coronation beach.

Highlights of the event were the Men’s Open Wave where the new generation claimed all 3 podium spots by the end of the event.

Men open:

Single: A Stone dominance

In the single elimination the Stone family dominated the event with both Jaeger- and Hendrix Stone making it all the way to the final, where the oldest brother Jaeger Stone took the victory. In battle for 3rd and 4th it was head designer Ben Severne that managed to hold of Greenhead local Glenn Alexander in a tight fight for 3rd place.

Double: Felix Spencer’s comeback

Missing out on the finals in the single elimination was Esperance local Felix Spencer who lost against Jeager Stone in the Quarter Final. Eager to get back on top Felix stormed through the double elimination coming back from shared 5th place all the way to 2nd with his new trade mark move the one footed backloop. This move made the difference in some tight fought heats. It’s the first podium for Felix Spencer that was now filled with the new generation of Australian top wavesailors.

Winner Jaeger Stone about the event:

“The Australian Wavesailing Titles were held at my home spot Coronation over the weekend. The conditions on Friday were definitely the highlight for me and we finished the single elimination that day in 25kn winds and head high waves. I used my 4.0 S-1 Pro and 72L Ultrakode. Was really fun sailing against Hendy in the final and he was sailing really well all day. The wind dropped a little over the 2 following days but there was still plenty to complete the double elimination and everyone was able to spend plenty of time on the water. Hoping this event was a stepping stone towards creating more events in the future and potentially a PWA event one day.”

Runner up Felix Spencer:

“The Australian Nationals in Geraldton was a great event with wind and waves almost everyday. In the single elimination I ended up making it to the Quarter Final where I met Jaeger and came of second best. In the double I managed to come back through six heats to make it into second place overall for the event. I was happy with how I sailed in the double and enjoyed every heat. My setup on the second day was the Nano 78 and S1 4,8. Until next year!”

Woman Fleet:

In the woman fleet it was PWA worldcup sailor Justyna Sniady who claimed victory in front of an on form head judge Maeli Cherel with Nathalie finishing in 3rd.

Amateur fleet:

In the Amateurs fleet it was our sales manager Thewes de Boer that did all the damage, claiming his first ever event victory in front of Thomas Knight . With Alex Rouys and Nick Bentley claiming respectively 3rd and 4th.

Freestyle:

In the Freestyle it was All Bently that dominated on his brand new Psycho 92 in front of Alex Rouys (also on the Psycho 92) with Alex Janine from New Caledonia finishing in 3th.

Youth:

That the future of windsurfing in Australia is already there was more than clear during the Youth contest. Filled by excitement and inspired by the Men Open the youth’s level went through the roof with many of the participants going for their first forwards and backloops during the heats. In the end it was Jake Ghiretti taking a close victory in front of Kai Marns Morris with Toby Webbster & Camillo Pillonel finishing respectively 3rd and 4th after an exciting final.
