Nico Prien GER-7 reports from the last Multivan Windsurf Cup (DWC) of the year which also is the German Championship.Text in German (English summary below).

So viel schonmal vorweg: Ich konnte meinen ersten Deutschen Meister -Titel überhaupt holen und durfte eine Goldmedaille für den besten Race Windsurfer in Deutschland vom Deutschen Segler-Verband entgegen nehmen.

Hier meine Zusammenfassung: Die Windvorhersage war extrem schlecht und hat sich im Laufe der Regatta zum kompletten Gegenteil entwickelt. In sechs Tagen Wettkampf machten 9 Racing- und 4 Slalom-Eliminationen den Bewerb deutlich intensiver als erwartet!In der Saison bisher konnte ich alle Events im Racing gewinnen und deshalb lag mein Fokus ganz klar darauf, diesen DM-Titel zu holen. Im Slalom sollte es deutlich schwerer werden – das wusste ich genau.

Slalom wurde bei ablandigen, sehr böigen Winden gefahren, allerdings ließ die Hitzewelle auch Sylt nicht aus und machte das ganze nochmals intensiver.Meine Slalom Vorbereitung war wirklich gut, aber ich konnte mein Potential hier nicht richtig ausspielen. Meine Starts wurden immer stark von anderen Fahren beeinträchtigt und so konnte ich meine Leistung speziell in den Finals nicht zeigen. Daher stehe ich am Ende des Events im Slalom „nur“ als dritter Deutscher auf dem „Deutschen Treppchen“.

Im Racing lief es dagegen sehr gut. Auch hier hatte ich mich gut Vorbereitet und meine Geschwindigkeit auf der Kreuz war unschlagbar und auch über den gesamten Kurs war ich wohl der schnellste. Da es mir um den DM-Titel ging, habe ich den Dänen Kornum immer wieder ziehen lassen und mich auf den Kampf mit meinen Deutschen Kontrahenten konzentriert. Am Ende reichte es locker für den Deutschen Meister-Titel und ich bin super glücklich allen gezeigt zu haben, dass NeilPryde und JP-Australia Materialmäßig derzeit das Maß der Dinge ist.

Auch in der Overall-Wertung, in der das Slalom- und das Racing-Ergebnis kombiniert werden, könnte ich den dritten Platz unter den Deutschen erringen. Jetzt bin ich super glücklich, drei Medaillen vom Deutschen Segler-Verband in meinen Händen halten zu dürfen: 2x Bronze & 1x Gold !

Damit ist die Saison im Deutschen Windsurfcup zu Ende und in den vorläufigen Ranglisten stehe ich im Racing auf Platz 1 , Overall auf Platz 2 und im Slalom auf Platz 3.

The essential news in advance: I was able to achieve my first German Championship title ever and was awarded a gold medal for the best German Race windsurfer from the German Sailing Association.

Now from the beginning: Before the competition the forecast was extremely bad but the wind did not follow the forecast and it was blowing: 9 Races and 4 Slalom eliminations made the event much more intense than expected.During the season I was able to win all previous Race events and so I focused on getting the German title in this discipline. I knew that it would be much harder in Slalom.

Slalom heats were held in very gusty and offshore winds and the heat wave –which also hit Sylt– made everything even more intense.

My preparation was really good but I obviously could not show my full potential here because my starts were always heavily influenced by the other sailors. So, I “only” could finish as the third German on the Slalom podium.

The Race discipline was great and here my preparation paid off! My upwind speed was unbeatable and I felt to clearly be the fastest German on the entire course. Since I was focusing on the German title, I didn’t risk getting involved in battles with my Danish team mate Sebastian Kornum –who dominated– but concentrated on controlling my German rivals.In the end, I safely became German Champion and I’m super happy I demonstrated that NeilPryde and JP-Australia is THE combo of the moment: Together with my team mate Sebastian we dominated this discipline and won every single run on JP/NP equipment!

In the Overall raking -which combines Slalom and Race- I again finished as the third German sailor and now are proud to hold three medals from the German Sailors Association: 2x Bronze & 1x Gold!
