BAJA“Going to Central and South America for the IWT events is always a highlight of my summer. This year was no different. Following the PWA event in Tenerife I flew straight to San Diego, from where I then drove directly to Baja. It had been a few years since I’d been back and we were heading down a few days before for a swell. We were greeted with some quintessential down-the-line Baja conditions which we enjoyed for a few days and then went straight into the event. The waves died down quite a lot but I managed to find the right waves and land a few good moves to get the win.”

Pacasmayo“Following Baja I flew to Pacasmayo, Peru, for the sixth summer in a row. Pacasmayo is the longest wave I’ve ever sailed and it is an amazing wave to improve on. It’s where I learned to properly sail in Port tack conditions. As is usual in Peru we had some amazing waves. After a disappointing finish last year I was happy to be back on the podium and finish 2nd!”

Matanzas“Finishing off my South American adventures was Matanzas, Chile – a new stop on the IWT. I’d spent a month in Matanzas two years ago and loved my time there. The food is great, the people are super friendly and the waves are amazing. As soon as the waiting period started, the contest kicked off and we ended up finishing in two days. Matanzas is a peculiar place to sail. The wind is constantly changing, and the waves never seem to break in the same place. Because of these difficult conditions I was happy to finish in 2nd place and it was a great way to end my four months of traveling and competing!”
