JP riders had an awesome event on the beautiful island of Lanzarote where the event was held from 5-8th July.3 riders made top-5 with Steven van Broeckhoven in #2nd and Yentel Caers in #3rd.

Steven van Broeckhoven B-72 reports:——————————————————————–Here are few words from me about the EFPT event in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote.

This year event in Lanzarote was again a big succes: Every day was windy and there was a big crowd of spectators on the beach. On day one we could finish the single elimination and get through the half of the double.

My first 2 heats were against Loick Spicher and Antoine Albert. As the level of the riders gets higher every season, there are no easy heats to sail and I had to do my best in every heat to pass to the next round. But I felt good and I was able to make powerful moves even in the light conditions. In the semifinal I sailed against Testa, who is very strong this year. Also this heat I won and it was a Belgian battle for the first place, me against Yentel Caers (B-16).I started my heat very strong and landed a double culo and an airfunnel burner in the first 30 seconds. I stayed in control during the whole heat and I think it was my best heat of the event. So the Single Elimination victory was mine.

Next day there were still some heats left to finish the double elimination. Testa was on form, climing up the event ladder he beat Sam Esteve and then Yentel Caers. In a final with Jacopo I had a hard time as the wind was not consistent and I chose the wrong sail size, so, Jacopo won the first double elimination.

The conditions were still good to start the second single elimination the same day. And again I could fight my way till the final, which I had to sail against my JP/NeilPryde team mate Sam Esteve. I sailed a solid heat and was pushing the double power moves in light conditions and also managed to land some good jumps on the way out. And I won the second single elimination, too!

On the third day the second double was on and for me it was a long wait until the final heats. Jacopo on the contrary had to work his way up to the top and was well warmed up. During the final, the conditions were super tricky, wind was dropping and shifting but some nice waves were coming through. It was a hard fight, but I could win this heat and become a winner of the second double elimination. Now there was a question, who will be the winner of the event. As we both have won a double and both have beated each other twice, there was a tie brake, so we had to sail one more heat.

In this heat conditions were still very tricky. I felt good and was able to land some moves which are almost impossible in such light winds – but the decision went to Testa.

All in all, it was a great event. The spot with its sometimes challanging conditions is fun to sail.

JP ranking of the EFPT Lanzarote:2 – Steven van Broeckhoven B-723 – Yentel Caers B-164 – Sam Esteve F-7916- Andy Lachauer G-171 & Maarten van Ochten H-7326- Christos Loizou CYP-27
