Young windsurfers enjoyed a great start to the Team15 season at Lochwinnoch at the weekend (17-18 June 2017) hosted by Team15 club Clyde Barracudas. As with all Team15 events, the aim of the weekend was to learn lots of new skills in a fun and friendly atmosphere. The fact that the sun was shining just made it all the better for both the windsurfers and the coaches!
Saturday was a training day so the windsurfers split into two groups . One group worked on their reaching and tacking and started to make ground up wind as the day went on. The other group were working on tacking and gybing, showing off some pretty fancy foot work as the day went on. They also did a small session on freestyle windsurfing which tested the skills of all the windsurfers and looked like great fun.
The second day of the event brought out of the competitive side of the windsurfers and it was definitely time for game faces on. There were a couple of fleets out on the water all doing different courses. The bigger race course tested the windsurfers and make them work on all points of sail whilst the smaller course had them practicing the reaching they had been working on the day before. The smaller course gave some good close racing and as the morning went on the course was extended. The afternoon brought another type of competition in the from of freestyle with all the windsurfers competing together. There were 3 heats before getting down to the final which saw sailors of all ages in the final and even a pair that were competing together on the same board! The final was great to watch and was a close contest which gave the judges a hard call to make.
"The weekend overall was a great success and all the windsurfers defiantly improved as well as having a great time" commented coach Callum Nicol.
"In summation, the season was opened with a bang. A fun, no-pressure event for the little kids and a more serious competition for the older kids, it displayed what T15 was all about: friends, fun and getting very wet" said Ruaraidh Somerville from the Clyde Barracudas. The results were as follows:7.8 Fleet1st place - Katya Johnson6.8 Fleet1st place - Ruaraidh Somerville5.5 Fleet1st Place - Alice Brazier3.5 Fleet1st place - Connor Gray2nd place - Dylan Haroy3rd place - Daisy McIverFreestyle Competition1st place - Dylan Haroy2nd place - Ruaraidh Somerville3rd place - Team: Zack Nicol & Daisy McIver"; editor.pasteHtml(videoHTML); } else { alert('The URL you have supplied seems to be incorrect.
