The 2017 Formula Windsurfing World Championships will take place in Sylt, Germany. From May 30th to June 5th, the worlds best racers will travel to the island of Sylt to fight for the world title.

Besides the prestigious title, the Formula World Championships are offering a prize money of €10,000. The Formula Worlds will be the sportive highlight of the summer opening which is the official kick-off event for the season on Sylt. Over 100,000 spectators are expected to visit the summer opening.

"We are proud that the International Formula Windsurfing Class is trusting our event management expertise and is honoring Germany by granting us the right to organize the 2017 World Championships. We will do our best to make the event a huge success for the FW Class." says Matthias Regber from the organizer Choppy Water GmbH.

Sylt is one of the most famous windsurfing spots in the world. Over decades, the venue has hosted national and international windsurfing competitions. There is no place in the world that attracts as many spectators for a windsurfing competition. The conditions can vary in a huge bandwidth: from eastern winds with glassy water to western storms with mast high waves - everything is possible on Sylt. This will make the fight for the title a unique challenge that will invite racers from all over the world.

The 2017 edition will return the FW World Championships to the heart of Europe. After three years of Championships in exposed venues, the class will now return to the base of the racing competition. Germany has a strong Formula Windsurfing fleet. Riders from Poland and the Baltic countries as well as Scandinavia, Southern Europe and the Netherlands are expected to join since Sylt is easy to access. Therefore a much higher participation level than in the last years is expected for the FW Worlds 2017.

The elite of the racers will come to Sylt. Top German riders like Vincent Langer, Nico Prien, Malte Reuscher and Gunnar Asmussen are eager to win the prestigious Formula Windsurfing World Champion title. But they will be challenged by Formula's best such as the reigning or past FW World Champions Alexandre Cousin from France, Gonzalo Costa Hoevel from Argentina or Ross Williams from Great Britain.

"Sylt is just an amazing place with amazing people, a professional organization and for sure we have the best windsurfing conditions in the world here. I will do my best to be part on top of the fleet." said an all-smiles Vincent Langer.

But Sylt is not only famous as a great platform for the windsurfing sport. For many visitors and riders, the huge event setup, the parties and the nightlife are a big motivation to travel to the island as well. A party tent will be the main stage for the after race parties that will close the days after thrilling action on the water. With an event area of over 16.000 square meters, the 2017 Formula Windsurfing World Championships will be one of the biggest windsurfing events in the world.
