This weekend held the final round of BWA at Avon Beach, the first South Coast starboard tack wave event for many years. Unfortunately the wind gods didn’t play ball and provided us with port tack winds, a rare occurrence on the South, along with no swell. However, the BWA ran ahead and organised a lightwind freestyle competition on Saturday for the youths and all fleets on Sunday, along with a spectacular tow-in for the pro’s. Needless to say the tow-in crashes were as good as the landed moves with the crowd cheering from the waters edge.

On Saturday night the BWA took over the Ship In Distress in Mudeford, creating a great atmosphere and a great local band made up of local windsurfers, including Severne team mate Warren Rowe.

On Sunday more wind filled in, however it was not enough for consistent planing conditions, although a few top freestylers managed to pump onto the plane. After two day of light wind freestyle sail-spinning, I managed to place 2nd in the youth fleet. Hopefully there will be better conditions next year to make the event even more successful!
