GERMAN CHAMPIONSHIPS 2016, Westerland, Sylt

5 days of intense racing ended with a great success for all JP riders in general and especially for Nico Prien who finished 2nd in Formula Racing and Overall and Swiss Richard Stauffacher who came 3rd in Formula Racing!

Here the summary from the new German Vice-Champion 2016, Nico Prien GER-7:

The German Championship is over and I ended up with the Vice Champion title in my hands. I’m really happy about that considering how nerve-wrecking and exhausting the event was.

In the heats I used my JP Formula ‘machine’ and my JP Slalom 85. There were some really exciting battles for the win of each race.I remember me leading the very first race of the event. When I approached the last mark on the downwind reach I made my jibe just too early and got overtaken by Gunnar Asmussen on the last meters.I got my revenge just two races later when I managed to deal best with super light wind and putting my maneuvers perfectly. I won that race with a big gap ahead of the 2nd.

On Saturday the conditions got very gnarly. Formula Racing in one meter waves and 11.0 powered up is not the most enjoyable thing. It really pushed my limits and I put together some solid racing but in the end I didn’t quite get the bullets and ended up in 2nd.

A personal highlight was the price giving. Sylt is always a place where a lot of people gather in front of the stage. And since it was my first podium on Sylt I really enjoyed popping the champagne bottle and celebrating in front of such a big crowd!
