Steven Van Broeckhoven wins and looks forward into a great EFPT season.
Steven Van Broeckhoven was injured last season. Now, the comeback of the Belgian sailor was super impressive and he demonstrated his class: B-72 performed in light conditions as well as in howling winds and waves and dominated both double eliminations.Steven states:“We had 4 days of competition and in the first 3 days we had great conditions from waves and strong wind to slightly lighter conditions.I’m very happy I managed to win both double eliminations. The level was high – everyone was pushing hard. This was the highest level EFPT I have ever competed in. We were pushing not only the freestyle level but also the jumping on the way out like double loops, shiftys and so on.CheersStevenB-72”
Maarten van Ochten in mid Air Chachoo. He comments, “This championship was AMAZING, we’ve had incredible conditions…” More…
Yentel Caers BEL-16 put on a great show in both double eliminations and won many heats by pulling of a big variety of clean moves. Coming 5th in the first Yentel even managed to finish in 3rd in the second elimination! With 2x 4th Amado Vrieswijk also added up 8 points but due to the tie-break rule it was Yentel who came 4th overall followed by Amado in 5th – read Amado’s comment below….
Check the YouTube video of the heat of Steven Van Broeckhoven B-72 and Yentel Caers BEL-16.
Worth mentioning is the performance of Rick Jendrusch who seemed to enjoy his JP Freestyle board to end up in 8th position.Young French rider Sam Esteve F-79 keeps getting better and better pushing hard into the top of the EFTP rider fleet finishing 10th!
Known for his powerful flatwater performance at home, Sam enjoyes the waves, too!

Amado Vrieswijk NB-20 reports:EFPT – Lanzarote, Costa Tequise, Spain 13-16 July, 2016
On July 10th I flew to Lanzarote to start the EFPT event at Costa Teguise. The conditions were perfect. Strong winds and some waves, the excellent spot to have a good competition. The 1st single elimination I could finish in 4 th place. It could have been more if I did not rip my 4.4 sail and had to use an old one. Nevertheless, I have to say that Testa was sailing well and deserved to advance over me.In the double elimination Bosson was stronger, although I was very satisfied with my sailing. So, a good 4th place again.
As the wind kept on blowing we could start again a full round. This time I could advance over Cears and Testa. In the battle for the second place is was a close call but the heat was in favor of Steven van Broeckhoven.
On Friday the 15th the last and second double elimination was finished. Team-mate Yentel Cears took revenge in a excellent way and took the 3rd spot. A 4th for me – again!
I’m not really happy with the result, 5th overall, but a good warm-up for the more important PWA event next week on Fuerteventura. I will be participation in Freestyle and also Slalom!
Congrats to JP-teammate Steven van Broeckhoven for winning this event!
Amado in mid rotation
The last day it was fun day. A Super-Cross was organized with 20 participants. I was funny to combine Slalom with Freestyle and we all had a great time.I managed to win, Steven van Broeckhoven in 2nd and Sims in 3rd place. This should be organized more often when conditions are not suitable for competition or the time is too short for a next round at an event.
It was one of the best events in a long time, looking at the wind and the water-conditions. Everything was very well organized and we had good vibes on the water and on the beach.
A week before the start of the EFPT I visited Pozo, Gran Canaria for the first time.I tried to get into the PWA wave-competition but did not receive an entry because of too the many competitors. Hopefully next time in Klittmoller… Although I did not compete I had a great time and learned a lot in the wave-discipline.Check out this YouTube video called Amado Vrieswijk in POZO.
