Pirate Theme Fancy Dress VIP Beach Party on Saturday Night

The fancy dress theme for the Saturday night VIP Beach party has been announced and it is… Pirates! While we think of Pirates as peg-legged, hook-handed ne’er do wells with an eye patch and a West Country accent, remember that pirates existed and still exist wherever there is water. All sea-going villains are pirates, including the Vikings, so you can use your imagination and turn up as Kirk Douglas if it pleases you! And did you know that Julius Caesar was captured by Roman pirates? He vowed to go back and kill them all. And being Julius Caesar – he kept his promise!

Old Mout Cider Sponsors NWF 2016

Cider and Pirates… there’s a real South West theme going on here, although it might be more South than you think…! Old Mout Cider was inspired by the UK, but born in New Zealand! Mispronounced since 1947, Old Mout (rhymes with FRUIT) was dreamed up in the Moutere Valley following Wanda Tait’s cycling trip in the UK where her taste buds fell in love with scrumpy. But NZ has an adventurous spirit and two pioneering young fellows with a passion for cider and new ideas carried on the tradition – with a twist. Justin and Scottie decided that while apples are GREAT, why not throw in some exotic island fruits to the mix and come up with some award-winning ciders such as Kiwi and Lime, Passionfruit and Summer Berries and bring a little bit of Kiwi spirit to the world?

Cal Major’s Paddle Against Plastic

The NWF is passionate about the environment and supports all efforts to keep our playground, the marine environment, clean and healthy. NWF is therefore delighted to announce that Cal Major will attend the NWF. In conjunction with Surfers Against Sewage (SAS), Cal has pledged to SUP 260 miles around the entire Cornish coast in return for a challenge to the public to do a summer without buying plastic, by trying to use refillable alternatives. In the UK, we use 13 billion plastic bottles every year, and these commonly end up on our beaches. 80% of marine litter originates on land, so the less plastic we use, the less ends up in the sea. Cal’s progress can be followed on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Cal will also be raising funds for SAS and you can make a donation to SAS through www.justgiving.com/cal-major
