We recently sent some of our SUP paddles to our friends at Core Adventure Sports (TX), owner & coach Dean People sent us his feedback on his new PURE 50% Carbon Adjustable Stand Up Paddle.

First Impression: Straight out of the box the Black Project PURE SUP paddle looks amazing. Stand up paddling is a visual sport, and the Black Project PURE 50% carbon adjustable paddle certainly delivers in the looks department with the blemish free, black pattern carbon and red trim. It seems to be the go-to paddle for my family as everyone wants to use it.

Prerequisite: We use adjustable paddles just as much as fixed shafts because the conditions that we paddle board in change frequently.  Its important for us to ride with an adjustable paddle (especially in steep chop or changing different thickness of boards etc.) so shortening or lengthening the paddle gets us quickly to our paddling comfort zone.

Paddle Feedback: It is VERY light for a 50% carbon blend paddle (I had to check twice and make sure I wasn’t looking at the wrong paddle). The adjustable clip is the easiest and smoothest system I have used, I can literally adjust my paddle mid stroke and with the markings clearly labelled on the paddle it took any guess work out of setting the correct height when I’m on the fly.  Adjustable clips are a big deal in my family and the new PURE has set the benchmark. Traditionally with adjustable stand up paddles you get quite a bit of flex between the main shaft and adjustable shaft part, I did not experience any over flexing in this area and it felt tight, stiff and secure. The 50% carbon blend shaft is very comfortable and provides just the right amount of flex. With smooth catch and release, this paddle is perfect for long SUP recreational cruising along rivers and lakes, I felt completely relaxed with the paddle efficiently doing the work. The red T-handle is comfy for any size hands and when we go SUP surfing on the Texas coast this will be our go to paddle for all of us.
