Malte Reuscher and Sebastian Kornum on the podium of the DWC Summer Opening in Sylt
From 05 to 08 May 2016 Sylt hosted the DWC Summer Openings of the German Windsurf Cup (“DWC”). On Westerland the best German windsurfers and some international racers fought for the first points for the annual 2016 ranking. The competitors were spoiled by the wind, because at the end of the regatta 11 Formula Races were on the score board! And on the final day the wind picked up and provided perfect conditions for one Slalom elimination.
It was a successful event, especially for the JP riders as 7 finished in the top-10!
FORMULA
Sebastian Kornum DEN-24 had a perfect start into this event with 3 bullets in Formula racing, maintaining his level and filling his score sheet with four #2nd and one #3rd. Still, it was only enough for the #2nd place in Formula.3rd on the podium was Malte Reuscher who had a solid performance throughout the event.Nico Prien and Dennis Müller had both desasterous starts but managed to improve their performance to climed up to #4th and #5th.Jan-Moritz Bochnia came 9th and younster Nicklas Borgen made it to the #10th place who -best of his age class- also won the YOUTH Class.
SLALOMIn this discipline the JP riders did even better: Malte Reuscher showed his routine and won the only Slalom heat.Sebastian Kornum finished #3rd followed by Dennis Müller in #4th.Awesome performance of youngster Nicklas Borgen who sailed really great and managed to charge some of the older and more experienced riders. Nicklas finished #7th,just ahead of Nico Prien, Jan-Moritz Bochnia and Jens Möller in #8th, #9th and #10th.Luis Ponseti finished as best German Youth Slalom rider and -again- Niklas Lillelund won the JUNIOR class.
Congratulations to all JP riders – awesome performance!
Sebastian Kornum states about the event,“All together I’m pretty happy with my performance in Sylt as I made it to the podium! I had a few bullets which is good as you know that you can trust in your gear and your own performance. Unfortunately, I could not make enough to win the whole event. We had just one slalom elimination and I felt fast and comfortable on my Slalom equipment, too! This result is motivating and I look forward to be back even stronger for more racing in Germany.”
