Reservoir Reservior Dogs pip T15 rivals Swansea Mutineers

Gwent windsurfers the Reservoir Dogs pipped rivals Swansea Mutineers in one of the closest and highest standard legs of the Welsh title ever in theTeam15 (15) Inter-Club Championship held in Llandegfedd.

With the benefits of the T15 windsurfing programme beginning to show real dividends, the battle for the Welsh title is likely to go to the wire over an exciting summer where the hot weather means the water is the cool place to be.

With Reservoir Dogs dominating the 4.5m windsurfing class and the Swansea Mutineers controlling the 5.8m class, in the end the event was decided by Reservoir Dogs Alex Evans coming third in the 5.8m class.

Dale Jones from home club Llandegfedd won four out of the five races in the 4.5m class, with teammates Anya Lawrenson and Eve Harling coming second and third. Swansea's Rory Jackson was almost as dominant in the 5.8m class, winning three races and finishing second in the other two.

Teammate Jonathan Weale won the other two races to finish second. “This was certaily the highest standard we have ever had in T15 windsurfing in Wales,” said T15 coordinator Stuart Meese. “The weather was perfect, temperatures of over 30 degrees meant the water was the best place to be, with Llandegfedd being excellent hosts as usual.

“Dale Jones had only recently moved up to the 4.5m class, but he did so well he showed he can compete in the bigger fleet and will be encouraged to move up in future legs of the Welsh title.

“Congratulations also to Eve Harling who had never sailed in a T15 event before, having watched from the sidelines before. This time she joined in and posted a creditable third place.

“Reservoir Dogs continue to show they are a strong team, but the rapidly improving Swansea Mutineers team were certainly snapping at their heels. Swansea's attendance at the Champions Cup in 2012 gave then the bigger fleet and coastal experience the Dogs do not have.

“The Welsh Yachting Association organised top coach Sam Ross to provide training on the day before the vent for all competitors, which helped this season kick off at the highest ever standard.”
