Another passionate season of Freestyle competition is over for me, it again were some thrilling, exiting and intense couple of month which took me from France, to Austria and the Canarian Islands, then to Germany and finally back through Holland to my home country. In 2015 I finish 13th in the PWA overall ranking, 5th in the EFPT freestyle overall ranking and 3rd in the Tow-In overall ranking.
Everything started in Leucate, were the first PWA event was confirmed. Even thought I was coming right back from Bonaire, I finished on a quite dissatisfying 17th place due to the fact that I sometimes tend to land my moves outside the competition area… this shall for sure not happen again: next year I will definitely pay more attention to the buoys’ position!
I came to Podersdorf by van, travelling trough north Italy with my mates Marco Vinante and Giovanni Passani. Unfortunately we didn’t get any wind for the whole week! Even the sun wasn’t showing up and the dewy April air could probably frighten the usual cheering crowd elsewhere, but I was quite positive surprised to see how faithful the Austrian public is! Only the parties seemed to be a bit less crazy as usual – but this was also the first year I came to Podersdorf with a beautiful girl by my side… Like every year we had the amazing Chimsee Tow-In show and all the Freestyle swells participated: I finished 5th with a clean Burner 360. I really hope for wind next year, as I feel that the lake conditions would be perfect for me! I definitely feel comfortable on fresh water!
.Fuerteventura was the best surprise of the year! Since two seasons I was always having bad results at this spot and this was taking me really down. This year I finished 5th in the single elimination and 7th in double, beating my friend and freestyle legend Taty Frans two times! We spend the winter together and in order to train competition conditions we did heats against each other – which really paid off for me! I also was mentally more focused because on the night before the competition my girlfriend forced me to visualize the heats in my mind, to prepare the moves I wanted to land against every sailor and finally she made me imagine winning exactly that heat against Taty! I will do my best to keep on having that shape for 2016!
This year Sylt was one of my favorite competitions! For all the 10 days the atmosphere was amazing due to the good-tempered crowd, which made me almost forget that there was no wind at all also on this event! We had a lot of Tow-In competition (honestly sometime it seemed to me as we were a bit exploited to do shows for free), and I was happy to finished 4th, 3rd and 5th! Therefore, if we sail with real wind condition next year, I would be happy to be in the top 10!
After Sylt I went straight to Brouwersdam to take part in the 4th (for me 2nd) event of EFPT 2015. It was very well organized and I had great fun finishing 5th in freestyle as well as in Tow-In! Definitely a place to come back next year and keep my place in the top 5!
The last -but not least!- event of the season was the EFPT final in Six Fours les Plages. On this event I was totally feeling at home because “my” windsurfing club SFWO organized this amazing long weekend! Coming back every year is like seeing the whole windsurf family again before leaving to the warm windy places and start powerful trainings! The food is perfect, the entertainment is great, the video and picture crew are hilarious… every rider should come at least once to Six Fours les Plages! After a full-power Halloween party night, I had to recover a bit in the morning before winning 4 heats in a row and reaching the 4th place of the event! I still don’t know how I was able to get that performance on the water considering the previous night… I think that Nina’s magic spearmint potion and some yoga exercises fixed me just in time for my heats before having a total breakdown when I come out of the water!
For next year I would dream of being on the podium next to my friend Adrien Bosson! When you read this story, I will probably be in Brazil already, ready to ride, rock and train for the upcoming Windsurf Freestyle season!
Thank you – to my windsurfing sponsors Avanti Sails and JP-Australia for supporting me with the best windsurf equipment in world! It’s wonderful to know, that I can trust in my equipment in every kind of condition!Thank you – to my dad for still making my windsurf dream possible!
