Peter Tomsett from Down Under sent his feedback regarding two wave boards to shaper Werner Gnigler.———————————————————————————–
Werner,
Just thought I would give you a quick e-mail about my experience so far on the 2016 JP Windsurf boards that I have been using over the last 2 months.
1) 95L Slate
I have been using this board a lot at home and have had a lot of fun on this board. It does not feel like 95L! When riding it feels smaller – about 90L. When non-planing the board feels less than 95L but due to the shape it is stable and still slogs very well – even when under water. I have used this board a number of times now for light wind wave sailing with a 5.4 NP Fly (3 battens) and this combo is so sweet: super light rig and board. I really like this board in waves up to about head high and sucky waves – due to the short length it fits in the pocket with ease which means you’re getting more turns in on a wave. I have been using it as a quad with the JP 10 side fins and 15.5 back fins but had my best sessions using 14 cm rear fins – this combo of fins really gives the board a bit more spring out of the turns and the turns feel more like surfing. As you would guess the board gets over the white water super easy which means that late hits to the lip are easy to recover from. This shape really helps with doing floaters when wave riding which is great as it means again you can quickly get to the next section of the wave for the next turn.I would fully recommend this board for anyone windsurfing in any type of conditions up to about head high waves.
2) 95L Thruster Quad
I have been riding this style board from back in the days when they were called the Real World Waves and every year I think there is no way that JP can improve on the board – but you succeed every year. And this year’s board is no exception! In fact it is by far the best board I have used to date from the JP line up.In comparison to the Slate on paper it reads longer but in person, the difference in length is only marginal. I have had two very good wave sailing days on this at Lancelin in over mast high waves: 1st session was cross off and light wind the second was cross on and about 22 knots. This board handled both conditions well and loves the bigger waves compared to the Slate.
Regards,Peter Tomsett
