Victor Fernández - the interview

Big congrats again to the 2015 PWA Wave Vice World Champion, Victor Fernández. Check out an exclusive interview with him about the Aloha Classic, his great performance in 2015 and a little outlook for 2016:

How do you feel about your vice world title? Are you super happy since 2nd is also impressive looking at all the good riders out there or are you also a bit disappointed that the missing wind at some events took the chance away to really fight back for the title, since it was very hard to win the Aloha Classic (what would have been mandatory for the overall title) with all the local world class riders in, since they can train the whole year at this spot?

I´m very happy with my 2015 performance in general. I´m also a bit disappointed too because I had one of my best years on tour but I know I was very close and I had been close to the title almost every year. Becoming 2nd gives me a lot of motivation because I can improve for next year. This makes me want to train harder to achieve another world tittle in 2016.What was the difference between the single and the double elimination at the Aloha Classic for you?

I think in the single elimination I did the mistake of taking a too big sail and a too big board. Just before my heat I saw that the wind drop a lot but then in the water I felt a bit slow on the wave because I was a bit overpower and I was not feeling 100% confident. In the double elimination I did the right choice on every heat. I use my 5.0 and 4.7 Hero Codes and my Quad 90 on every heat which is the kit I always sail in Hookipa so I felt much better in general. What is your main goal for the PWA season 2016?

I want to train a lot this winter to do as good as possible on the tour next year and I would like to fight for another World Title in 2016.What is your road map for the next months before the new PWA season starts again?

I will stay on Maui for 2 month now. Training and testing for North Sails with Kai Hopf to make our sails get even better for the next season. In January I will be in Spain looking for some portack training and then in February I will come back to Maui until the end of April for more training, videos and photo shootings.I would like to thanks my sponsors, family, friends and my trainers for all the big support one more year, without them all this would be imposible.Pics: John Carter
