Miguel Bruggemann in El Yaque

Miguel “Miguelito” Bruggemann (V-05) is a 19 year old Venezuelan Slalom racer from El Yaque, Isla Margarita. He started windsurfing at the age of 12 and participated in a lot of national events during the past 6 years winning Venezuelan titles. Now he decided to to participate in the first Slalom World Cup in his career at Sotavento, Fuerteventura. We met Miguelito at the beach during the event days and he really enjoyed competing with the fastest riders in the world and 8 other youth riders in the 56 men counting fleet. In the end he managed to finish in 43 place and showed a nice overall performance.

The El Yaque local has big goals. He wants to become a professional windsurfer and win world titles one day. His home spot actually offers the perfect playground. It’s exactly the spot, where Ricardo, Gollito, Diony, Cheo, Yoli, Colette and many more grew up.  And all of them made it on the podiums at international events and World Cups. And the best won several world titles. So far Diony is the only rider, who managed to finish racing events with good results. Let’s see, if Miguel Bruggemann will be the first one from Venezuela, who will make it on podium at a Slalom World Cup.

Tom Brendt, El Yaque local, told us: “Migulito really likes high wind conditions. Stronger the wind gets, more he starts to fly!”

Miguel not only is windsurfing on the Slalom gear. He as well has good skills on the freestyle gear, what can help in Slalom. Taty Frans is the best example in the international scene.

Actually it’s quite difficult for windsurfers from Venezuela to travel outside their country. the ticket prices are quite high and it’s hard to get any tickets. That’s the main problem Miguel and all riders from that isolated country struggle at the moment with. Let’s hope that teh situation will improve and Gollito & co will have easier times again in the future to travel to the events.
