Davy Scheffers (H-311) released “Pure Brasil”, a video about his winter training. Davy nails double Forwards, Air Grubbies, big Ponches and much more. The Dutch freestyler from Zierikzee in Zeeland, who windsurfs a lot at Brouwersdam, has one of his best seasons on tour. He currently is ranked 6th and has a good chance to climb up the rankings with a good performance during the final on Sylt.

Interview with  Davy Scheffers about his trip to Brazil

Continentseven: When were you in Brazil?

Davy Scheffers: Back in December 2014 we stayed there for 1.5 months in Jericoacora. Having good times and enjoy the brasilian vibes, the lovely atmosphere and wonderful beaches with good consistent steady winds which are perfect for a longer stay and practice windsurfing daily. We went to Camocim to sail on Hugo’s home spot, practice some flatwater freestyle and film for a Camocim part in the video. That day it was very crowded and after 3 days we decided to get back to Jeri.

Continentseven: How were the conditions?

Davy Scheffers: The wind was amazing this year. With everyday using 4.4 as sail size and 90 liter boards totally powered up there is no room for any complaints about the conditions.

Continentseven: At which spots did you windsurf?

Davy Scheffers: Most of the days we windsurfed right in front of the town on the main beach in front of the windsurfing clubs. Then we were downwind at the dune for some days and we did a 3 days visit to Camocim. Jeri is a little bit busy on the water because everyone is windsurfing, surfing and some start to do kiting on exactly the same place, so, yes, it becomes very crowded. For that reason, we went down to the dunes a bit and there it was sick for sailing! Proper ramps all over combined with flat water, perfect for freestyle fun.

Continentseven: Did you learn any new moves?

Davy Scheffers: Jeri is a sick place for learning new moves as it has nice big ramps. In the beginning hard to catch but once you get the timing right everything seems possible. I have been practicing the new and old school moves trying to add some personal flavor to them and work on the move in small detail to make the move look cool, fluent, stylish with a good feeling. Have been practicing flatwater moves as Air Bob Culo, Spock double Culo, Kabikuchi Culo and jumping moves as Pushloop, Pasko, Air Kabikuchi, Airbobs, Shaka’s and double Forward Loops and some new moves which I am currently working on.

Continentseven: With whom did you hang around or go windsurfing?

Davy Scheffers: Mostly sailing with Antony Ruenes, this year joining was also Nic Hibdidge and we have been sailing with everyone out on the water, who was in Jeri. Like with Edvan da Souza, Phil Soltysiak, Julien Mas, Hugo de Sousa, Arrianne Aukes, Kuba Kawalkowski, Loick Spicher, Colin Whippy Dixon, Janjao Henrique, Max Mattissek, Oda Johanne and more and more of the locals which im scared of that I forget so many names. Unfortunately Ian Mouro had an injury and we could not sail together, but the most important is that there has been a good atmosphere and everyone is pushing the limit on the water and some of the Brazillian guys are absolutely ripping like Edvan flying sky high all over the place which is just really sick and pushes yourself even harder to go out and try out new stuff.

Continentseven: Will you return to Brazil soon?

Davy Scheffers: I hope to return in October 2015 and start filming for big video projects with freestyle insanity to share what kind of tricks we are able to do on a windsurfer and that it is totally fun to be playing on the water.

Continentseven: What’s your opinion about the current freestyle level?

Davy Scheffers: The current freestyle level is going to new limits and starts to get insane. The guys are ripping harder and harder! The fleet consists of young guns who can perform any kind of move they choose. From the first rounds on they are throwing Air Kabi’s and Double loops if they need to and right away as first moves of the heat… Yee, it starts to get more gnarly, haha.
