The American sailor from Martha's Vineyard, 17, won six out of twelve races, in winds ranging between 12 and 30 knots. Sayre, whose parents were both competitive windsurfers, is also a member of the US RS:X team.

"I am very happy. It's my first World Championship title and I value it highly. It's been a challenging championship with a very high level of the competition. I managed to keep my racing on a steady level throughout the five days," says Rasmus Sayre.

The silver medal went to Danish windsurfing legend Tim Aagesen. He showed consistency and took three bullets during the competition. Tim has already won world titles in four different windsurfing classes during three decades, including Kona Worlds.

"This is by far the best Kona Worlds I have attended. The level of competition is constantly raising since the class continues to attract both young talents and experienced racers", adds Tim Aagesen.

Nevin Sayre, father of Rasmus Sayre, finished third. He has a long career in windsurfing, won several Raceboard titles and served as the first president at the Professional Windsurfers Association (PWA).

"Today I am a proud father. I am also grateful for the opportunity to compete in the same international championship as both my children. That is what makes Kona quite unique," concludes Nevin Sayre.
