Today 15-Oct, the Chris Benz Lüderitz Speed Challenge has been an interesting day.

The channel which has been manicured over the last few days, has experienced today a deep angle which is not ideal for faster times despite the strong wind.

Later in the day the angle improved, the wind dropped but still we enjoyed really good performances: The Czech National record has been improved by Martin Toth with a new record of 44.92 knots.

The highest speed of the day was scored by Patrik Diethelm with 49.74 kts followed by Mark Grinnell the South African Windsurfer, who holds the record, with 49.23 kts (0.4 kts far from his actual record). Then Anders Bringdal, the Swedish Record Holder, reached 49.11 kts in these difficult conditions as well as the Dutch windsurfer Jacques van der Hout who achieved his best speed with 49.06 kts.

Erik Beale, the legend of windsurfing, first to 40 knots (in the 80’s) beat his best speed today with 44.88 kts.

The German Christian Bornemann was close to his best speed with 46.26 kts (his best: 46.75 kts) like Matthias Rottcher the Namibian record holder in windsurfing with 46.78 kts (his record: 47.51kts).

Hennie Bredenkamp from South Africa improved his speed today with 46.87 kts like Alain de Gendt the Belgium previous record holder with 45.94 kts (was 45.92 kts).

Tomorrow the skipper meeting is at 11am and looks like the conditions will improved.
