Micah Buzianis USA-34 reports from the PWA event in Alacati – one of his favorite tour stops and one where he scored some of his best results in the past:
It was another great event in Alacati this year, one of the best I can remember for wind and number of races. Even though it was a tough week for me, I did manage a few good rounds and some good heats, just not enough quality ones to put together a good result.
The racing was a bit tricky with a tight starting area and a short first reach starts were more critical than ever. It seemed like a poor start was nearly impossible to recover from. And while I did have some great starts I just had too many poor starts as well.
Overall, it was a great event for wind with lots of racing in a lot of different conditions from fully powered on my JP Slalom 66 and 7.7 to some very tricky winds on my JP Slalom 80 and 9.3. I felt like my best racing was when the wind was up and I had good power on my JP Slalom 66 and Slalom 80 and my 7.7 and 8.4. When the winds became lighter and gusty was when I struggled. I have to say that I was really looking forward to Alacati this year, usually these are my favorite conditions and this year the winds couldn’t have favored me more. But something just wasn’t clicking for me, I am disappointed with my result but I also learned a lot from all the racing that we did, so I can take some positives out of the event and go back to Maui and get better prepared for the rest of the season!
