Update from Christopher Friis

In the single elimination I was up against PWA veteran Klaas Voget in my first heat. I sailed a strong heat against him and managed to bust out a high Tweaked Pushloop and what head judge Duncan Coombs said was: "probably the highest Forward Loop of the competition.". Waveriding wise I pulled off a super clean Forward Off The Lip, but I didn't manage to link my waveriding properly and Klaas took the victory. I was out of the single elimination and had a few days before the double elimination would be started. The forecast looked like pure evil, and on the day of the start of the double elimination the wind was howling with more than 55+ knots, making it very difficult to do anything on the water. I fought my way through the first round and stood before one of the local Pozo riders Erik Sanllehy. Again I sailed a strong heat and managed to land both my Tweaked Pushloop, a high Stalled Forward loop and link my waveriding nicely in the onshore conditions. Unfortunately I lost the heat in a 2 to 1 decision from the judges, and I could leave Pozo with a 25th place. Not quite the result that I was expecting, but I was satisfied with my level of sailing in my heats and I now know what I have to focus on to do better in the future. Next up is the PWA Tenerife Wave World Cup starting on the 12th of July. I now have a few days before the event starts and I will be trying to make the most out of what looks to be an epic forecast for the event. I feel quite confident about the Tenerife event as I have been training there all spring and know the place much better than last year. I have some exciting few days in front of me and I can't wait to get started. Best regards Christopher Friis DEN 36 Photo: PWA / John Carter
