World Cup Gran Canary 2012?The World Cup on Gran Canary finished last week in the windiest conditions I ever sailed. I had to borrow a 3.4 to be able to sail some of my heats. The wind was guesting up to 60 knots at times and everyone was struggling to sail straight. Gran Canary was the first Wave World Cup of the year and it was great to see how the level again this year was super high.I have spent most of the winter in South Africa training for this season, and when I got back to Denmark I got a personal trainer that has been helping me to optimize my workout in the gym. He made a specific program for me that worked on all my weak points, and at the same time he fine tuned my diet, so my body had the best conditions to improve. This way I can help prevent injuries and make sure my fitness level is the best it can be. So I felt really well prepared when I arrived at Gran Canary. Unfortunately  I was only able to go down a few days early prior to the event start because of the Redbull event in Klitmøller. But at least I had a few days to get used to the strong onshore winds of Pozo. In the single I was seeded through to the second round and in my first heat I was up against Martin Ten Hoeve from Holland. Martin is a solid sailor and I knew I had to sail a good heat to beat him. It was 2 waves and 2 jumps counting, I managed to make 2 solid jumps and 2 high scoring waves with takas on both of them. Next heat I was against local boy Dario Ojeda. He was sailing really well and finished 3rd here last year, so I knew it was going to be a hard one. I didn't have a perfect heat but it wasn't too bad, but Dario was on fire and he got revenge from last year, where I beat him in the double in Klitmøller. That meant I finished 9th in the single elimination. Phillip Köster won the single elimination in front of Victor Fernandez. Both sailors were sailing amazingly and it was a joy to watch the two best guys in the world at that spot. In the double elimination the wind was howling and it was guesting up to 60 knots. I had to borrow a 3.4 from danish Rimming boss Mikkel Asmussen. In my first heat I was against local boy and Simmer team mate Omar Sanchez. He already advanced two heats in the double and was sailing really well in the windy conditions. Luckily I sailed a flaw less heat. Especially my waves was really good, and that was also how I beat him in the end. The heat was super close though but I came out on top. My next heat was against 3 times World Champion Kauli Seadi. He wasn't really looking on form in this event, but in the double he started showing exactly why he was 3 times World Champion. I sailed my worst heat of the contest against Kauli. I just couldn't seem to find the right waves and ended up on smaller ones that didn't really rang up the points that you need to beat Kauli. So I wasn't surprised when he was announcement  the winner of the heat. That meant I finished 13th here in Pozo, which still is my best result so far here on Gran Canaria. So I am quite happy. In the final it was once again Köster and Fernandez that had to sail for first place. Both were riping but Phillip had the edge in the end and won the final. Big congrats to him.
