The second Wave World Cup of the year is now finished and I'm back home in Klitmøller, where my preparations for the next World Cup already have begun. Tenerife was a great event, and delivered some good conditions most of the time. Sometimes the conditions was a bit tricky and change very fast so that was a bit frustrating, and stressful to compete in. In the single elimination I was seeded through to the first round and was against my good friend and room mate Jamie Hancock. So the battle was on and it was a must win heat. The first day of the competition the conditions was quite good but just as our heat started the wind dropped a lot, so half way in the heat, head judge Duncan Combs decided to cancel the heat. The wind never returned so we were in first heat the following day. The next morning the wind was really light and I rigged up my 5.6 just to be sure, I wouldn't be underpowered. After a few hours of postponement the wind picked up enough to start the heat. I was on 5.3 and my biggest board, and it was really hard to keep speed on the wave because of the onshore conditions. Jamie is a really good sailor and when the wind is light he is always ripping. I knew I had to do some big moves to be able to beat him, so my plan was to pull of some big takas and late hits. The first few waves I caught I tried to do that but crashed most of my waves. I tried to keep calm and just stick to the plan, which payed of in the end. I managed to pull of a taka on a big section and completed the wave with some more turns. And in the last seconds of the heat I picked up a big set wave and had some really good and late smacks which ranked up some good points. Jamie also sailed a good heat and it was super close, but luckily for me I advanced into the next heat against Ricardo Campello. The wind was still light and it was only 2 waves counting and no jumps, which isn't to bad when you are up against Ricardo. But unfortunately the wind once again dropped of of and the heat was canceled. So once again I was in the first heat the following morning. Next morning the wind was quite light and I got my big stuff ready. But with in a half an hour the wind pick up a lot, and during the warm up I got super overpowered, so I jumped on my 4.7 just before the heat started. But already before the green flag came up I was once again overpowered. Now it was to late to change the sail and I just decided to hold on. I also managed to sail a super solid heat with good jumps and waves, and when the heat was over I had a really good feeling. Unfortunately Ricardo also had a really good heat and he was just a better sailor and therefore won the heat. That meant I finished 9th in the single and had a good base fore the double elimination. In the double I was a bit unlucky though as I had Adam Lewis in my first heat. He is almost a local on Tenerife and sails the spot really well. He had an early exit in the single and was determent to prove himself. So after winning his first 2 heats in the double it was my turn to take on Lewis. I sailed the first heat of the day in the morning against Ricardo and had just waited all day to sail again in the double. And by now the wind was howling and most of the guys was on 3.7 and smaller. I went out for a warm up on my 3.7 but the wind quick dropped and I jump on my 4.2 just before the heat started. The conditions was really tricky with a lot of chop and really random waves. I couldn't really get my sailing right and I didn't managed to get any good waves, so when Adam was announced as the winner, I wasn't surprised. I was quite disappointed with my self, that I didn't sail a better heat, but sometimes you just have a bad one. That meant I finished 17th. Adam sailed his way to 9th and big congrats to him. He really sailed super impressive and i'm stoked on his behave. Phillip Köster once again won the contest and showed he is the best windsurfer in the world at the moment. Alex Mussolini fought his way all the way to second place, and he was just on fire in the double. Big congrats to both of them. I'm back in Klitmøller now, and already started training for the next World Cup which takes place here in Klitmøller in september.
