[ All photos: PWA / John Carter ] – Place 2 for Olya Raskina RUS-14 and place 3 for Steven Van Broeckhoven!
OLYA RASKINA – RUS 14
At this event at René Egli’s center it was Olya Raskina who waved the flags for JP in the ladies fleet. And she did great, landing Spocks, Flakas and Puneta variations! With a consistent and high level of performance RUS-14 was able to make it all the way to the final of this Freestyle competition.
Her second place here is one of Olya’s greatest successes and of her best ever PWA results in her career! Congratulations!
In the men’s fleet we had several great riders and the best is
STEVEN VAN BROECKHOVEN B-72
who pulled off a great show: with moves like Kono, Burner 720, Air Funnel into Funnel, Pasko, Kabikuchi, Air Bob into Culo, planing forward he defeated some of the greatest names in today’s Freestyle. In the final of the single elimination Van Broeckhoven landed an amazing Pasko and Kabikuchi, but couldn’t quite find the ramp he required to pull a Bongka or Pushloop as he did in the semifinal, which is what made the difference in the end.
The double elimination was a disappointment. On the score sheets it was one of the “closet heats of the year”. On the water it was a great show from Steven with a Kabikuchi, a Shaka Pop, a sick Double Culo, a Pasko, an OH Air Funnel, a Burner 360, a big Ponch, a sick Air Funnel into Burner, a Culo and a Double Culo.Bubble thinks to remember that Steven not only did a Shaka Pop but a Shaka Pop into Flaka.
Many spectators on the beach were sure B-72 clearly would advance. But the decision was to his disadvantage.
YOUP SCHMIT NED-27
Unfortunately Youp still suffered badly from his knee injury and that’s why he was not able to fulfill his own expectations. Sailing under influence of painkillers ruined his competition tactics and without them he was not able to perform. That he tried didn’t do him any good. Right after the event Youp could barely walk, went straight to the hospital and was not able to go to the Young Guns Camp on Rhodos island. All the best for a quick recovery, Youp!
ANDY “BUBBLE” CHAMBERS K-540
jumped in for Youp to finish as the second best rider in the JP team. Andy had great heats and an enjoyed the event in Fuerteventura – as you can tell from the picture below. Bubble claimed that, “my competition experience helped get me through some tough heats”.
