It feels as if it was only two minutes ago that we arrived in Moulay and now I've left already.
After four years of absence and trips to Maui and Fuerteventura Moulay is still the best, friendliest windsurfing location I have ever travelled to.
This trip the conditions were more brutal than I have experienced but there were still many moments of fun in amongst the brutal waves and wind.
Scare stories include Carl's near death experience - imagine it you are wiped out by a logo high wave and a split second later realise you are being dragged along in the wave with your head THROUGH the harness line. black and blue and bloodied Carl lived to sail the next session. (I've been in Moulay with Carl before and seen his insane push loops - he made the first one he tried!).
Above : Carl bloodied after hanging himself in his harness line. And below Carl mid forward.
Then there is Boujmaa's first run out when the wind ramps to its peak speed at 3pm. His huge black pickup rumbles down the dusty street of Moulay (there is only one) and seemingly everyone stops whatever they were doing to watch him sail.
On his first run out Boujmaa launches into a forward off the beach, high with a planing landing, then a cheese roll a few seconds later ( this is all on the reform) then a perfect push loop out on the reef finally a crazy pete instead of a gybe. Then he races back in to perform it all again. Incredible.
Perhaps it is the brutality of the conditions that creates the overwhelming sense of friendliness on and off the water - or perhaps it is Boujmaa, Fettah and Soufiane's generous attitude to their spot. Either way there are always windsurfers (of all ages and sexes) smiling here - and that is why I love the place so much.
Below Albert's beachside cafe - definitely the best coffee in the village (Spanish espresso) with a ringside view of the action.

Above : i was picking out the smaller waves.
Lucky for me my wonderful wife seemed to love it as much as me so it seems I'll be back in no time.
