Ringstead Cutback

Ringstead is a little sailed reef between Kimmeridge and Overcombe and in the right conditions it produces a punchy wave that reels down the edge of the reef.
The tide here is critical: Too high and the waves don't break and are cut up by the cross chop, too low and the Reef will take out the bottom of your board!
So with neap tides forecast today my hopes were high and after a quick look at Kimmeridge where the bay was full off white water waay out to sea (I would guess the outside sets were over mast high) I decided to give Ringstead a shot.
It didn't really all go to plan as is so often the case here - the swell wasn't really getting into the reef and for the first two hours the small choppy waves made for an uninspiring sail. Nevertheless there were a few gems see pictures below.
But as the tide turned the waves jacked up and the cross chop disappeared. Unfortunately my gopro mount broke before this but there were some lovely overhead lines to attack as the sun faded toward the horizon.
Pictures below – this sequence shows a cutback that I just managed to salvage. I disappear completely in the froth for a few secs and then wrestle rig and board out of the wave.
