From the 7th till the 14th of September the DAM7 festival was hosted at the Brouwersdam home spot of 3 Severne riders and some of the best freestyle sailors of the world. The set up of the event was amazing with a lot of activities for outstanders and riders. During the week there was enough wind to finish a single and double elimination for the man and even a second single for the woman. Conditions went from 15 knots till 50knts at certain points in the competition making it really an all-round event! Team Severne was represented by 5 riders during DAM7 and this is what their experiences where:
MEN
Dieter 9th place
The DAM7 event was really a lot of fun, it wasn’t my best result of the season ending up on a 9th place which isn’t the place I wanted to end up as I know I could and should have got a higher ranking. The best about the event was to sail at a place you learned so much and feels like home, the organisation was amazing and the conditions where some of the best we got this year! I can only look forward to get a better result in Sylt and get back into the top 5!
Amado 13th place
For me it was the first time sailing at Brouwersdam, I had allot of fun , I really liked how it was organised. I finished 13th which is not the best results for me but I was really happy with my way of sailing my heats and got the highest score I ever got sailing a heat.
I am really motivated for the last event ‘Sylt’ I hope to finish in the top 10 this year.
And the most important thing is to have fun on the water.
Rick 17th place
For me the competition was really special! It was on my home spot and there was a lot of pressure on me because I want to do it good for all the people who come to watch and al my friends who saw me sailing a PWA for the first time!! I ended up 17th after some good heats! I sailed really how I would like to sail, but my result could be better! But I'm happy how I sailed so it is ok! We had perfect Brouwersdam conditions for the world cup! I sailed with my 3,6 / 4,4 and 4,8 Freek in the competitions! Never had so strong winds in the competition as here! Really enjoyed this!! In the end I'm really happy !
WOMAN
Oda 5th place
The competition was pretty exiting with 16 girls competing. The level was way higher than in Fuerteventura, and we all sailed some really close heats. We managed to do 2 singles and 1 double elimination for the girls. In the double elimination I was sailing 5 heats, including one re-sail. It was pretty hectic as the wind was shifting all the time between 4.0, 4.4 and 4.8. In the 5th heat I lost against Olya Raskina who ended up on 4th place. So 5th place for me, let’s see how it goes next season!
Maaike 6th place
Doing the PWA at my home spot was really cool. It was nice sailing with so many girls. The first day started with light winds, warming up with a 4.8 and ending up using an overpowered 3.6 and 3.3 in the heat. After the single I had a shared 5th place. The next day we started with the double. I won my first heat and I lost my second heat due to the fact that I was underpowered but still had a 7th place. The last day we gave it a go for another elimination, we finished the single giving me a shared 5th place again! After this the wind dropped and so the event was over, giving me a 6th place at DAM7 and also a 6th place overall!!! This year the tour is over for me but it will for sure not be the last one!
With the Worldcup finished in Sylt yesterday the overall for 2014 is now completed with following results incl. 2 world title’s in the Youth categories! Report of Sylt will come online later this week.
