HOT Riders heats up Cold Hawaii!

The KIA Cold Hawaii PWA World Cup 2013 in Klitmøller, Denmark started off eventful where rain, hail, rainbows and no other then the Danish Crown Prince Frederik made an appearance.

All riders were ready to go in the waves, but the lack of consistent wind made the riders enthusiasm have to wait.

The Danish Crown Prince, a former Navy Seal, accomplished sailor and ironman triathlete was not only there to start off the PWA, but also there to try forces of windsurfing.

“As a sailor, looking at the acrobatics and the techniques that they master is impressive, seeing what man has made to make it possible to defy the laws of gravity,” the Crown Prince said. “To this part of Denmark it’s (the Cold Hawaii world cup) extremely important. The whole area has realized that this is something to be proud of but also to attract tourists from all over Europe, maybe even the world.”

Even though the week started off with lack on consistent wind, the Danish wind and waves showed it’s real powers in the end off the week where the onshore conditions made jumping and wave riding a real challenge.

During the week team rider Markus Rydberg gave us a little update about how his PWA week was going:

“We have had one day with good conditions so far and it looks like this weekend can deliver some wind. The second day showed nice conditions with big waves and side offshore winds. it was just a little too light to start the comp, and I was in the second heat of the trials so I had be on standby from 6.30 in the morning. After hours of waiting they finally started the comp. during my heat it was pretty light so I tried to be really careful with my wave selection. I caught a couple of good waves and manage to go through to the main event. I am super super stoked for this as it is big deal for me to go through the trials now with the new super tough 32 man system!”

It was a happy Marcilio Browne who got to experience his first final against the popular Philip Köster, and then after a challenging heat was announced the winner.

Team rider Leon Jamaer showed off his wave and jumping skills on one of his favorite spots, with his favorite sail, the QU4D, also known as the super compact 4 batten wave sail that is designed for radical and aggressive riders for use in a variety of wave conditions. He landed an impressive joined 5th place after scoring the same in his heat as Robby Swift, Victor Fernandez and Jules Denel where they all finished with the same score.
