Black Project Fins team rider RUSS FAUROT and Owner/Rider CHRIS FREEMAN both took the difficult decision to leave home in Hawaii just as the waves were beginning to arrive so that they could travel to the East Coast for the AWT Hatteras Wave Jam. The last minute decisions have paid off as both riders have now secured favorable seeding as we move into the final event of the year – the 2013 Aloha Classic. Both riders struggled in the early heats with way too small equipment and having exhausted their options borrowed gear from other riders to ensure that they had enough float in the next rounds. Both are now experienced riders on the American Windsurfing Tour and this helped them to fend off local talent to love into the semi-finals. Unfortunately both riders missed great opportunities to claim spots in what would have been their first Pro finals and had to settle for a share of 5th.
The points gained in North Carolina will see Russ all but secure his 6th for the year while Chris moved up to 12th overall for the season, these places will ensure them favorable first round draws at the next event. With the Aloha Classic just weeks away both riders will be returning to Maui soon with Russ attending the AWT Lake Champlain Windsurfing Festival in NY and Chris making his way over to the UK for a long over due family and dealer visit.
It has also been confirmed that Chris Freeman will be the 2014 AWT Head Judge for the full Tour. Black Project Fins is proud to support the Tour and the wider windsurfing community.
