Pitsford Pirates moved into pole position to qualify for the national Team15 junior windsurfing final for the fourth year running as they clinched victory at round three of the Team15 Midlands Inter-Club Challenge Series at Rutland Watersports, Whitwell on Saturday (6 July).
Victoria Patrick (4.5m class), Oliver Smith (5.8m) and Lydia Howley (6.8) all claimed class wins for the Pirates - winners of the past three Midlands titles - with just one more round of the 2013 regional series to come.
Pirates also won round two in Derbyshire last month, and victory at the fourth and final regional round at Draycote Water, Warwickshire in September would once again see them go on to represent the Midlands at the Team15 Champions Cup grand final the following month.
Sisters Loveday and Daisy McAllister, competing in the 4.5 and 3.5 fleets respectively, also both put in impressive performances for the Pirates finishing a close second in their events.
Meanwhile, James Bulson, 11, from the Croft Farm Flyers, won the 3.5m fleet with some impressive sailing while Barnaby Williams (Tallington Tornadoes) was competing in his first event after only being on a windsurf board three times!
The event was linked with the RYA National Junior Championships 2013, supported by the UK Windsurfing Association (UKWA), so competitors were competing in both regattas simultaneously, getting invaluable experience of high quality national standard competition.
Neil Patrick, Pitsford Pirates team manager and parent, said: “This has been a great event. It has been perfect for our team and they have loved every minute of it.”
Team15 is the RYA’s youth windsurfing development programme helping make windsurfing more accessible and appealing to kids aged 15 and under at grassroots level. The Team15 Inter-Club Challenge Series takes place regionally over the summer adding a competitive edge and race training for those keen to hone their skills.
There are more than 80 Team15 clubs nationwide. Fun and informal Team15 sessions are held weekly, kit can be borrowed from the clubs and the cost of sessions is kept low.
