The second world cup of the year has finished and the Severne Freestyle team scored their best results till now in the season with 3 riders in the top 16 during an event where the level was extremely high!
Just before the event we asked our riders their goals and their motivation lets see how far away they were from reaching them!
First up Rick Jendrush. After his 25th place in Podersdorf after losing against Amado Vrieswijk in the double Rick fully showed his potential in Fuerteventura.
Goal: My goal is to get into the top 16 of the PWA this year. Fuerteventura is a hard competition for me because I do my switch moves to the outside. So lets see how it goes!
Motivation: I like the strong winds here in Fuerteventura and I really want to do good, i also like the chop so lets push it to the next level and show the best!
Rick made his best result till so far in the PWA with a 13th place after 2 doubles, he even scored a shared 9th place in the first double elimination so showed the potential to get even a top 10 placement! He made his goal by far and climbs up to 21 place on the world ranking but we are sure he can get higher than this by the end of the year!
Amado Vrieswijk the young talented sailor from Bonaire who many guys in the top of the PWA fear opened the year with a 9th place in Podersdorf and was looking for more!
Goal: to make it up into the top 10 again.
Motivation: After my good result in Podersdorf I believe I can reach my goal and can keep my overall ranking after this event or even do better!
Amado was one of the outstanding sailors this event and scored big attention by winning from Taty Frans in the first double to make it into the top 8th. During the second double he only got stopped by Teammate Dieter Van der Eyken after an amazing heat from both sailors making him end in 7th place at the end of the event and putting him on 8th place in the overall ranking after 2 events! Lets see if he still can get higher
Dieter Van der Eyken was a bit disappointed about his 7th place in Podersdorf and was burned to do better and improve his overall ranking to reach his goals.
Goal: My goal for this event is to sail better heats than in Podersdorf and score a higher result to improve my overall ranking!
Motivation: Severne made sure we got all our 2014 sails in time for the competition and I’m really confident we can go higher and more radical with these sails. Besides that it will be a long competition so lets hope consistency pays off!
Scoring many 50+ point heats (max score is 60) Dieter showed his full potential by scoring 2 times a 5th place in both double eliminations and fully lived up to his name “mister consistency” and showed the potential to even win from the very top guys on tour but just couldn’t get his top heats worked out against them. After a 5th place in Fuerteventura, Dieter flies up the ranking to a 4th place after 2 events the highest he ever got so far and we are certain he will do everything to keep this place!
Balz Muller the guy with no fear and the craziest ideas didn’t get the highest result but still scored more attention than many much higher ranked top riders!
Motivation: impress the judges and spectators on the beach with some funny crazy airtime!
Goal: to land them in my heats, and don't get any bad injury! Have fun and catch some good sessions.
Balz didn’t improve his result from Podersdorf but had the most hours on the water and got a lot of attention by scoring some amazing shots in front of JC’s (John Carter) lens by trying moves other riders wouldn’t even think of trying. He might need to get a bit more consistent in competition but if he keeps trying new stuff like now we are sure he will bring freestyle to a new level without even having to be a top 3 rider!
Besides the great results in the men fleet we saw a lot of red sails rising to the top in the woman fleet. Oda Johanna had her first PWA contest and scored shared 5th straight away follow by Maaike Huvermann (first PWA at 15years old) and Karin Jaggi who shared 7th place in Fuerteventura.
Well done on the great results team Severne now it’s up to the Wave sailors to do the same in Tenerife! Good luck!
