The Shaka Surf Center in Torbole, Italy, was host to the first Old Guns Camp with Roberto Hoffmann. It is a counterpoint to the Young Guns Camp (the freestyle Camp with Steven van Broeckhoven in August) for the group of riders working on the key maneuver in windsurfing – the jibe.

Originally, several times German Champion Bernd Flessner G-16 was meant to hold the camp but couldn’t come for health reasons.

For 4 days the conditions were great with 18°C water and finally nice and warm weather. The reliable Ora wind was the base for the hoped-for and expected progress: jibing, planing and unlimited fun! We got everything.

The Italian cooking was enjoyed by everybody. And so was the barbecue at the Conca D’Oro beach, and Torbole’s nightlife.

Summing it up, the camp was so well received that we will hold another one next year for sure. There is still great interest in this camp and many more people will want to work on perfecting their jibes. And when it finally succeeds it is the ultimate sense of achievement.

Aus Spaß und als Gegensatz zum Young Guns Camp (das Freestyle Camp mit Steven van Broeckhoven im August) gab es die Veranstaltung für eine Gruppe von Surfern, die das Schlüssel-Manöver im Windsurfen, die Halse, endlich mal in allen Varianten lernen möchten.

Eigentlich hätte der mehrfache Deutsche Meister Bernd Flessner G-16 das Camp leiten sollen, doch musste er leider aus gesundheitlichen Gründen passen. Roberto Hoffmann war seine Vertretung.

4 Tage lang gab es gute Bedingungen, bei 18°C Wasser und endlich warmes Wetter. Die verlässliche Ora sorgte für die erhofften und erwarteten Erfolge: Halsen, Gleiten und Spaß ohne Ende. Alles gepasste.

Die Italienische Küche begeisterte bei den exzellenten Abendessen im Dorf, einer Grillparty am Conca D’Oro Beach, natürlich gefolgt vom “After-Surf-Talk” in Torboles Nachtleben!

Auf jeden Fall soll das Camp es nächstes Jahr wieder stattfinden, weil es großes Interesse gibt und noch zu viele Leute an der Verbesserung ihrer Halse arbeiten…. und wenn die dann endlich klappt ist es das ultimative Erfolgserlebnis!

Si è tenuto il primo OLD GUNS Stage con Robert Hofmann presso il Conca d’Oro Windsurf Center a Torbole sul lago di Garda. In sostanza è un specie di gioco di parole per dire che oltre allo Stage dei YOUNG GUNS, (le nuove leve giovani a lezione da Steven van Broeckhoven in Conca a inizio Agosto), per far capire che anche la vecchia guardia non molla, anzi è molto tenace!!

Lo Stage era improntato alla “pecora nera” del windsurf, cioè la Strambata Power. Il gruppo di iscritto al corsa aveva come requisito base la planata con piedi nelle straps. La tematica della strambata è poi stata affrontata con tutte le sue varianti nei quattro giorni. Robert ci racconta: Il vento ci ha assistito con quattro giornate di bella “Ora” che oscillava dai 12 ai 20 nodi, con temperature finalmente degne di metà giugno sui 28 gradi. Anche la temperatura dell’acqua si è poi assestata sui 18 gradi che ha reso le cadute nelle strambate meno tragiche!

Grazie alla perfetta organizzazione di Mikel Slijk e del suo Staff, lo Stage è stato anche un ottimo modo per stare insieme, grazie alla cena presso un agriturismo il venerdì sera e una bellissima grigliata presso il centro il Sabato sera.

In mattinata abbiamo fatto sempre fatto 90 minuti di teoria (di più fà scoppiare il cervello), per dare una certa continuità nei movimenti della Strambata. Nel windsurf è importante simulare le diverse fasi di mani e piedi, per avere una specie di cinema in testa!

In ogni caso sono stati fatti enormi progressi da parte di tutti, e questo mi ha dato molte soddisfazioni. In ogni caso è già sicuro che lo Stage verrà ripetuto l’anno prossimo.
