ANT BAKER talks about his move to Black Project Fins

We are very pleased to announce that following discussions and on water testing that reining UK Slalom and Speed Champion ANT BAKER has decided to move to Black Project Fins. Ant who has been using the fins for a little while now sent us this interesting mini-interview.

chris and ant - w615

You have used lots of fins what makes BPF special?

There are lots of great fins of the market at the moment so for me to chose one brand I need the products and the team to be just right and with Black Project i found just that, Chris is not just a good friend but a great ambassador for the fin line and Tom the Hammerton is a visionary with design, so all this together made the perfect team.

Having worked with many companies in the past why did you choose to work with BPF now?
Good fins, easy to communicate and above all we have a mutual respect… and did i say the fins are good!!

Will you be involved with product development and if so what are you looking for from BPF in the future?

We have already started to develop fins set ups for the freeride market in the UK for boards like the Fanatic Gecko and Shark as the riders of these boards need the most help in the windsurfing development so I hope that with Nik and i using the fins we can offer some great feedback. In the future I will help with the development of slalom and speed fins.

What sail, board and fin combinations are you using in different conditions?

Chris as he loves his graphs, here is a list of the combos i like to use:

  • 9.6 Warp, Falcon 142: 50, 47.5 Type R
  • 8.6 Warp, Falcon 125: 45, 42.5 Type R
  • 7.8 Warp, Falcon 112: 42, 38 Type RS
  • 7.0 Warp, Falcon 102: 36, 34 Type RS
  • 5.2 Warp, Falcon speed 45:Type X50.

Having windsurfed around the world for many years what keeps you motivated to keep getting in the water and competing?

just love it… when im not competing or coaching i am on the water testing or just having fun, i have just received the new Fanatic Geckos and they are so much fun… Just love it!

What are your thoughts on carbon vs for G10?

Carbon for the top racers in the world works well with 46cm and above but the G10 fins are so durable and will last forever :)

Having won the 2012 BSA Championships are we likely to see you back on the PWA Tour in the near future?

Yep i would love to, if i could get the budget i would be there now :)

Anything Else?

Doesn’t matter how windy it is, just go out and have fun!

Thanks Ant, we look forward to working with you and seeing you enjoy the ocean just like we do.

More to follow…
