160th Birthday Party

160th Birthday Party

That might sound impossible but its true, Ray and Molly Page had there joint birthday party and with both having 80 on the score board it was a celebration I couldn’t miss. If you’ve ever Windsurfed in Norfolk or dropped into Quayside over the years then no introduction is necessary, Ray is one of those characters you never forget. He’ll always have a string of jokes to keep you entertained while you mull what you’re going to buy next.

He’s a real charmer and when ever he come down to Whiteboarders there was always “a special customer” he wanted to look after, but I guess that’s why he been in out sport for so long, he always made a genuine effort to please. For example, I was at one demo in Wells we were having breakfast and I commented “you can never have enough mushrooms”, ever since I’ve never sat down to eat without Ray ensuring I had that extra helping, though last night he went overboard.

I was looking around the table and my plate looked bigger than everyone else’s, it was a prawn and mushroom in garlic oil started and yes, he’s ensured my plate was bigger than everyone else’s. Once the main course arrived (Sole, another fav) I caught  the waiter coming out with an extra plate, this time he’d topped the lot, there was no way I could polish off this lot, enough mushrooms to burst but that’s the typical effort he’ll go to just to make you smile.

It was great to so many of the old crew together to celebrate  with Ray and Molly, beyond the usual happy birthday wishes I’d like to say  I’m enjoyed working with them and privileged to be counted amongst their friends.
