The spaces for the Simmer Style Talent Academy filled up in less than a month so Christopher Friis decided to go for another clinic that was open to a wider age span, and not only to the 13-22 years the Talent Academy required. Therefore he has put together the Simmer Style Wave Academy clinic which will run from the 12th of August to the 16th of August.
Main course will include forwards, back loops, push loops and wave 360s. Feel hungry for this? Menu catalog follows…
Following the success of the Simmer Style Talent Academy we try to meet the many requests we had of a high quality clinic with a broader age span than the Talent Academy. This clinic is aimed at all ages and levels of windsurfers who want to improve their wave sailing in the most effective way possible in the beautiful surroundings of El Medano, Tenerife.
What to expect?
We are going to be based out of the brand new Tenerife Windsurfing Solution (TWS) centre in the South Bay of El Medano. From here I will put together an individual training course tailored to your specific needs and experience. We will set an overall goal for what you want to achieve during the week and start working towards it step by step.
We can work on pretty much any given level from top to bottom. Whether you want to push yourself past the fear of rotating through your first forward loop or you just need that last bit of advice to get the landing right in your pushloops. Maybe your bottomturn needs a bit of work or you want to start training the rotation and timing of doing a wave 360, there is always some aspect of your sailing that can be improved and that is what we are going to work full power with all week.
We are also lucky to have established a collaboration with GoPro from which we get some of the best watersports cameras avalible to use during the clinic. We are going to set you up with a camera for some of your sessions and then we are going to look through the video footage so that we can get a closeup look at what you can do to improve your sailing, which is one of the most effective ways of correcting your mistakes.
El Medano…
El Medano is a small chilled out town in the south of Tenerife which is famous for it’s great conditions for windsurfing. In the summer the town is full of windsurfers from all over the world and it’s not just for any reason they all travel here. PWA stars such as Dani Bruch, Adam Lewis and Alex Mussolini have all made this place their home because of the consistent trade winds and the great waves shaping perfectly over the many different reefs on the island.
Right in front of the TWS centre, which will be our base for the week, is the South Bay. It’s a huge sandy bay with a small rideable shorebreak. As soon as you pass the shorebreak it’s easy sailable and it will be our launch point for everything we do during the week. Within five minute sailing distance is both the Habour Wall and Cabezo which is the two main wave spots in El Medano.
The Habour Wall is a great spot with a bit of a running wave and sideshore winds. The reef is set right in front of a big habour wall, hence the name. The waves here can get up to mast high on a big day, but normally it’s around shoulder high. It’s one of the best waves in the world to do wave 360’s on.
Cabezo is the hardcore spot where the PWA World Tour event is also held. It offers strong side-onshore winds with a heavy wave and it’s the best spot for jumping in the area. The reef here can be a bit tricky though.
Where to eat, live and sleep?
I have arranged 7 days of accomodation for all the participants to stay at hostel Casa Grande which is a less than five minute walk from the beach. It’s a chilled out place with a big living room, kitchen and a big terrace in the heart of El Medano. Wifi is included and breakfast will be served every morning at the hostel.
In the early afternoon we will typically get off the water as the wind starts to pick up and we will go for lunch at Café Flashpoint which is based right next to the TWS centre overlooking the South Bay.
In the evening you are all left for yourselves to explore El Medano’s many great restaurants or you can go to the supermercado and make your own dinner at the hostel.
What about equipment?
The TWS centre has all the newest equipment from Simmer Style and all the other mayor brands and they have offered a great deal on renting your gear for the clinic with them. Everything is rigged on full carbon masts and it’s all already rigged and ready for you, it doesn’t get much easier than that.
You are also welcome to bring your own equipment if you want. Storage near the TWS can be arranged.
What is included in the price?
For the price of 600,- EUR you get:
- 5 days of tuition.
- 7 days of hostel & breakfast.
- 5 days of equipment rental and testing from TWS.
- GoPro video coaching.
If you plan to stay for longer than 7 days in the hostel please let me know so I can make reservations for you. The price will be 13,- EUR a day for every day you are staying extra.
If you are bringing your own equipment or if you want to find your own accommodation please let me know as the total price for the clinic will change for you.
