The windsurfing competition will feature Course Racing, Slalom, Freestyle and Long Distance divisions. Three classes will sail at the Southern California winds: Formula Windsurfing, One Design and Open Class
Courses will be set inside the breakwater, outside the breakwater or both. Separate courses will be set up and races held for the different classes, simultaneously, if necessary, to take advantage of the most favorable wind conditions for all.
The Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club underlines that winds found in "Hurricane Gulch" provide excellent conditions for sailors of all types of sailing craft, from windsurfers to sabots, and is a frequent venue for many major regattas.
Out of 31 days in August, 29 days have wind blowing in excess of 15 mph, and out of those 10 days have wind blowing in excess of 20 mph. Summer water temperatures are between 64°F and 68°F. Air temperatures are in the 80°F.
