FIGHT for the KODES!

Peter Hart reports from Brazil in mid clinic.

Conditions out here in Jeri have been especially good this year. Winds of 25 knots gave us classic jumping conditions the first 4 days and then yesterday, ‘swell of the year’ rolled in to leave us in down-the-line heaven.

The guys on the clinic have been renting from Club Ventos, which carries top of the range models from a number of brands including Starboard. There’s plenty to go round but the problem is .. . Everyone wants the Kodes! The word is out. They rip! The moment the centre opens, it’s like the January sales at Harrods as people punch, scratch and kick their way to the front to try and nab one.

For the bigger (85kg +) guys the 103 is the only cross over board that can float them out through the dead wind patch at high tide and which is loose enough to wave ride properly. On top of that it’s the earliest to plane.

The 94, as we’ve known for a while, is the best allrounder on the planet – fast, manoeuvrable and flattering. And as for the 87 – pure Tiramisu.

FIGHT for the KODES!

A lot of boards perform well on a fast, clean wave face but are found lacking in mushier conditions. Like the UK, the waves here are pretty benign and so you need a board which generates speed and zip in dead situations. That’s the Kode all over.

It’s lucky I brought my own!
