The HOT training grounds – Cape Town (Part #1)

Cape Town is becoming the unofficial winter training ground for Hot Sails Maui with a number of our riders converging in South Africa this month. It has been great to see them work together and work closely with our South African importer David Hansford (HSM/Quatro) who has been developing the local market these past couple of years. We will have a number of reports from team in the coming weeks and here is the first from International Team member Jonas who recently got a GoPro 3 and seems to be putting it to good use!

“Been in Cape Town for One week and we’ve had some (very) nice conditions ! There we’re waves all the time and a lot of wind too. On my first day the wind was very strong and the swell pretty good. After rushing ourselves from the airport to our apartment we went straight to Bigbay. A very good session to start with on 3.7 an my 67l witchcraft wave! Had a few good aerials and one very nice taka and lot’s of backloops, no footage from this day. After that the SE-wind stopped and we’ve been surfing mostly. Last 2 or 3 day’s we’ve had some big swell and wind. I’ve been sailing Sunset and Bigbay for 3 day’s in a row ! Saw a lot off people breaking gear and a lot off big wipeouts … I broke an old extension myself (when hitting the lip ) 2 day’s ago in Bigbay. Luckily not too much other damage ( only ripped mast sleeve ). Sailing on 4.0-4.7 and both big and small board. Been doing quite a lot off chicken jibes on gusty Sunset lately. Some people don’t seem to be to ‘proud’ to do them… ( see pictures below :) )” Jonas
