The UK’s Royal Yachting Association (RYA) were yesterday pleased to receive an increase on their funding from UK Sport for the pre-Rio Olympic cycle.
The awards are based on incentives related to medal wins, so predictably the Great Britain Cycling, Athletics and Sailing infrastructure all benefit from extra cash boosts.
The RYA will receive £24.5 million ‘investment’ – a 7% increase – towards winning medals at Rio 2016.
The average ‘cost’ of each of the 5 UK sailing medals (including Nick Dempsey’s Silver) from London 2012 was £4,588,540
