A planned trip to Gnaraloo poses a lot of questions – the most obvious of which are along the lines of ‘will there be swell and will there be wind?’ Next comes ‘what will the road (if you can call it that) be like’ and ‘will we break down or hit a kangaroo before we even get there?’
In the lead up to the trip you are generally feeling a mix of anxiety and excitement. ‘Could I score the best waves of my life? Could I destroy my equipment and my body on the shallow reef?’
It isn’t a place that you can expect to make the most of without first facing numerous challenges and I think that this is what makes it such a magical place and keeps everyone coming back. Well, at least everyone willing to take a chance and surrender control to the unknown in the quest for totally scoring.
