NWF Round UP

The 2012 National Watersports Festival has proven to be the biggest, best and most successful to date. With a large number of the team present at the event we thought we would get each of them to summarise their thoughts on this amazing event:

Peter Hart - “Despite or perhaps even BECAUSE of light winds, this was the best NWF yet. The sun helped, but it was all down to a change in attitude in that it’s always a good day for something!’ On the Friday I did some spontaneous clinic in 5 knots of wind where I took out the 10” 5’ Starboard Drive and a 5.7m Edge and suddenly there were 30 people out on the water all on WindSups having a blast AND learning.

Great effort from all the team both on and off the water. In the relay team Tush 2 may have been able to beat Team Tush 1 (or Team Sills as they can also be known) had Muzza not headed off to the Isle of Wight, but he did redeem himself later by looping the Futura in 12 knots of wind!”

Sam Sills: “Best event of the year! The highlight for me has to be all the Night windsurf action followed by the legendary NWF party!  Cant wait for next year!! Thanks so much to everybody behind the scenes to make it possible, and a special thanks to Tushingham and Starboard for their support, I couldn’t have done it with out them!”

Simon Bornhoft: ”GREAT EVENT. AMAZING TURN OUT!  With all the atmosphere, great demo kit and action on and off the water, it really was a windsurfing feast! Thanks to everyone who attended my 3 Steps to windsurfing heaven clinic on Saturday afternoon and special thanks to the Team Windwise crew who trained, raced or just turned up to soak up the atmosphere! Special congrats to Sarah Edwards and Murray Maunder for finishing 4 female and male in the Freeride event! See you there next year!”

George Shillito: “What can I say; this years NWF was insanely good! I have been going to events all my life and this one blows any of those out of the water. The atmosphere, the people, the competition and the whole vibe is simply AWESOME. Allan Cross and his team deserve an Olympic medal, as for the last few years they have been organising this incredible event against all the odds and without a headline sponsor, which, in my eyes is truly inspirational. It is their passion mixed with everyone elses pure excitement that pulls together these people from all walks of life to celebrate windsurfing and watersports to create such a spectacular event!”

Chris ‘Muzza’ Murray: The NWF this year was epic and the fact there wasn’t much wind made for an awesome weekend. The sailing fun as well as a challenge to get round the course having to pump forever trying to beat your m8s working every little bit of speed out of the boards. And of course it was super hot weather so it brought lots of people to the beach in bikinis, which is always nice to see haha!! I loved doing the run bike paddle board even though George beat me was a lot of fun, my low point of the weekend was not getting picked for the team 15 relay race two years running, I think they know how bad I am at racing! It was also a great event for meeting all your friends having loads of fun and having a brilliant party too with dance off’s and crowd surfing, brilliant! I really hope we can be back next year.

Sam Ross: ” A week on from NWF and I’ve almost recovered, it was fantastic to see the windsurf and SUP community hit Hayling Island in their droves and proved that windsurfing is fantastic in pretty much all conditions. Being involved with the kids racing was fantastic honour and I’m going to start a campaign for next year “Choose Muzza first” for the turbo 15 kids relay”
